  • 5x DMC World Champion DJ Craze takes things to the next level in this new turntablism routine, using Traktor Scratch Pro and the Kontrol X1 controller. Using the X1, Craze simultaneously triggers cue points on both decks, while still staying true to his roots with some serious beatjuggling.

By combining traditional vinyl techniques like juggling, scratching and body tricks with advanced controller-based functions such as cue point manipulation, tempo-synced effects and ultra-quick track changes, this performance showcases the cutting edge of turntablism and controllerism using the latest digital DJing technology.

    Traktor Vs. Serato

two heavy weights go toe to toe

“Everyone wants to know the deal about what to get: Traktor Scratch Pro or Serato Scratch Live! Hard core vinyl addict here, Dj Q-Bert using both side by side in a quick demo for you just to see yourself, and how they both compare to the precision of a real record (on the other side of that Traktor record is an analog recording of a remixed Superseal)”

  • Art of Wax!

    Alpine Symphony
Hardware Gallery in Sydney has an exhibition of artworks featuring Vinyl records, perfect for the studio :

“Vinyl is being taken off its dusty shelves and given a new lease on life at Hardware Gallery’s new exhibition, Medium: Vinyl, where it will further prove that its revival as a tool for inspiration is imminent. Paying respect to music and art’s enduring relationship, 150 artworks have been created on vinyl “canvases” and will be specially  curated into one of our largest events all year.

In the spirit of true celebration, the exhibition will also include a vinyl market, where crates of used records will be available for sale. There will be turntables for both prospective purchasers and for the DJs gracing the decks, who will be performing on the opening and closing nights of the exhibition as well as our second Sound Series event, held on May 28.

Medium: Vinyl will open on May 21 and will run until June 12. Just as print will never truly be dead, nor will the iconic vinyl record.”

    THE FORUM, SATURDAY 27 MARCH

Niche Productions is proud to present, Japanese sensation DJKENTARO – 2002 DMC World Champion, performing his only Australian show, an intense audio/visual experience live at The Forum on Saturday 27 March.

First earning the title of DMC Japan Champion in 2001, DJKENTARO won the coveted title of World Champion just a year later at the age of 20, earing the highest score in the contest’s history. In 2005 Kentaro wowed audiences worldwide with his Ninja Tune Solid Steel mix ‘On The wheels of Solid Steel’ which featured exclusive Ninja Tune back catalogue.

His full production debut ‘Enter’ was released in 2007, showing his talent as a producer and featured some guest turns from the likes of The Pharcyde, Spank Rock, and Fat Jon to name a few.

Kentaro’s blend of hip-hop, breaks, DnB and turntablism is untouchable, which has lead to many tours all over the world showing off his epic talent. Kentaro also understands that making a great album doesn’t mean an overload of scratching, with his album making a musical journey through the likes of funk, dub, space-jazz and DnB while staying true to his old skool hip hop roots.

More recently, Kentaro has been working on his second full production album to be released through Ninja Tune later in the year, as well as releasing a line of wristwatches for Nixon Worldwide.

DJKENTARO LIVE DJ/AV SHOW with special guests Dizz1, El Gusto (Hermitude) and True Vibenation (mixtape launch) – exclusively at The Forum, Saturday 27 March. Tickets on sale from moshtix.com and all moshtix outlets.

  • The Slew Australian Tour

Kid Koala And Ex-wolfmother Crew Team Up For The Slew Australian Tour! In one of the most exciting collaborations to grace the stage in years, Canadian turntable masters Kid Koala and Dynomite D team up with former Wolfmother crew Chris Ross and Myles Heskett to create a psych/heavy-rock-drenched project The Slew. Kid Koala proudly presents The Slew Live featuring a hefty six turntables with Chris and Myles from Wolfmother on bass and drums. Hitting up major capital cities across Australia in May, it’s rock turntablism like you’ve never seen it before. Teaming up with Chris Ross and Myles Heskett – the former rhythm section of Grammy Award-winning band Wolfmother – The Slew set out to put together a full-blown rock band experience to do justice to the material in a live setting. And justice was served: The truly excessive six turntables, drum, bass, keyboard and wall of amps that made their way across North America this October made for a full-on raw, pummeling rock experience.

The Slew bring attitude back to the turntable unlike anything you’ve ever heard.
